1000 Mile Mild

Brewed: 06/02/2019   Kegged: 06/23/2019

Just as I did the previous 3 years, I'm doing the 2019 Great Cycle Challenge

GCC2018.jpgThe Great Cycle Challenge is one of those ride-to-raise-money-for-charity events that pop up from time to time.

The charity I'm riding to raise money for is the Children's Cancer Research Fund.

The difference between this "event" and others (sort of) like it is that this one lasts the entire month of June. The riders pledge a number of miles to ride over the month. Other people donate money in support.

In 2019 ... my goal is to ride 1000 miles.

That is a lot for me, but I think I can do it.

In honor of this goal, I'm brewing a low-alcohol / low-calorie beer. I'm calling it a Dark Mild, but it on the very low end of the style's color. It also has American hops in the finish.

So, it certainly isn't a traditional English Mild ... but I don't care.

Brew day started around 5am. Got mash going and then went for bone ride. Added 11g calcium chloride to help with beer clarity. Will fill kettle and then go to church. Brew day will continue after I get back.

Tilt says I'm down to 1.006, which means I can keg whenever I enjoy one of my other beers.

Kegged today. Also put extra two gallons in the Frankenbrew keg. Calling this 1.006.

Trying a pint. It is a diet beer after all. Maybe a bit dry and thin, but delicious. Much better than a diet soda too. Great color. Good clarity. I might like a bit more carbonation, but good beer.

Still have some. Really nice beer.

A few weeks ago I brought the keg into work for happy hour. People really seemed to enjoy it.

Killed the keg while grilling. Yummy beer. Will have to make this again for next year's #GCCUSA
